the journey begins in denmark

January 28, 2010

the journey begins in denmark, originally uploaded by julochka.

this mandala came from a coloring book sabin got for christmas. the mandalas are based on paper cutouts made of hans christian andersen stories. i colored it using stædler fineliners (my faves) and cut it out and sewed it into the journal with my sewing machine (you can see the thread on page one as well.)

i learned that this bookbinder’s design journal doesn’t handle watercolors that well – the watercolors are actually on the other side of this page, but some have leaked through. oh well, live and learn.

around the edge of the mandala, i have written: “the journey begins in denmark – home of hans christian andersen – the COP15 climate meeting – lego – the little mermaid – smørrebrød – pork and not so much fish as you would expect – and me, for a decade now.”

be sure to check out our soujournal flickr group for more details of our journal pages.

What would a blog be without a flickr group?

    Lovely page though.

I want to know more. I love the idea itself.

You can find watercolor journals that might stand up a little better to whatever you want to do in them. The good ones have heavy paper, lie flat and are protected by sturdy covers which you would probably cover with something else, but they’re going to protect the journal anyway.

What a wonderful adventure in creativity and friendship this is!
